17,Bought a book. Bought a set. Played all hands around the table. Now I’d probably also watch a few YouTube tutorials that weren’t around then. I was able to play in the first game I played in and then improved as I played more and with different people. Best if you get to play with good players. After a while, length of having played is definitely not an indicator of competence in the game as many long time players are not necessarily good players, they’ve just played a long time. A class would have been too slow for me, but most people are comfortable with classes. I’ve stagnated into being a good high-ish intermediate. To get to be a high level player you need, like with most any activity, to dedicate lots of time, practice, and to be flexible and open to new ideas.
